The TEMA-3 can be used as a norm-referenced measure or as a diagnostic instrument to determine specific strengths and weaknesses in children’s (ages 3-8.11 years) mathematics skills.

  • The TEMA-3 can be used to measure progress, evaluate programs, screen for readiness, discover the basis for poor mathematics performance, identify gifted students, and guide instruction and remediation.
  • Measures informal and formal (school-taught) concepts and skills in the areas of numbering skills, number-comparison facility, numeral literacy, mastery of number facts, calculation skills, and understanding of concepts.
  • Scores on Form A and B can be used interchangeably.
  • Studies showing the absence of gender and ethnic bias are included.
  • A book of remedial techniques (Assessment Probes and Instructional Activities) includes numerous teaching tasks for skills covered by each TEMA-3 item.
