A Precise, Efficient, and Clinically Responsive Measure of Intelligence

New normative update!

The RIAS-2 NU is a comprehensive measure of general intelligence (g), verbal and nonverbal reasoning, memory, and processing speed applicable across the life span. With an updated normative sample based on 2023 U.S. Census data, the RIAS-2 NU applies to a larger, more representative population. Its four-subtest core battery—Guess What, Odd-Item Out, Verbal Reasoning, and What's Missing—continues to provide a highly reliable estimate of g. Supplemental memory and speeded processing subtests further enhance clinical insight where needed.

  • Accurate - Reduced dependence on reading and fine motor skills results in a more precise measure of g.
  • Broad - Used in the identification of intellectual disability, learning disabilities, giftedness, memory impairment, and neuropsychological conditions.
  • Comprehensive - Use one instrument to measure general intelligence, reasoning, memory and processing  speed in individuals ages 3 to 94 years.
  • Efficient - Administer all eight subtests in less than one hour.
  • Modern - The Digital Record Form (DRF) is the newest way to digitally administer a performance-based test and has been updated to  use with the new normative sample.

Features and benefits

  • Updated normative sample of 2,793 cases based on 2023 U.S. Census data and consists of new concurrent measures (WISC-V, WAIS-5) and updated test-retest cases.
  • Expanded acceptable alternative responses for the Guess What (GWH), Verbal Reasoning (VRZ), and What's Missing (WHM) subtests reflect modern terminology and user feedback.
  • A new Profile Validity Index (PVI) provides information on the variability of an individual's subtest performance in comparison to others in the same age group.
  • Updated Professional Manual, forms, and reports include information about the new PVI.
  • The e-Stimulus Books are convenient alternatives to paper administration to allow for face-to-face administration via tablet. Download the Administration Guidelines for Digital Stimulus Materials white paper from the resource section below. Those with RIAS-2 kits can continue to use their existing e-Stimulus books.
  • The RIAS-2 Record Form with Spanish Responses is a culturally inclusive form that allows bilingual and English language learners the option of answering items in Spanish.

Administration and Scoring

All summary scoring and report generation is done exclusively through PARiConnect. The Digital Record Form provides the option to digitally administer the RIAS-2 NU Record Form.

  • Easily administer using only one tablet (Apple or Android), with no additional hardware or connections to additional devices required.
  • Smart technology considers the age-based start points for each subtest and advances to the correct item. The system progresses through each subtest based on the basal, reverse, and discontinue rules.
  • The DRF decreases the risk of human error by automatically tallying and calculating scores.
  • Responses are saved for scoring and interpretation, with the option to generate a digital report of the responses within PARiConnect.
  • Practice Mode allows you to become familiar with the DRF before using it with a real client, and a free training guide walks you through administration and scoring.
  • Includes additional features such as a notes section for recording behavioral observations to aid in interpretation, the option to flag an item to return to later, and the ability to save the form while in progress.

Remote administration is available for the RIAS-2 NU using a minimally modified digital version of the record form and stimulus book.

  • An equivalency study (Wright, 2018) found the RIAS-2 digital and paper format to be equivalent for all subtests except for Speeded Processing, which is therefor excluded.
  • Administer using the Remote e-Stimulus Book (shared via videoconferencing) and Record Forms.
  • Download and review the Administration Guidelines for Digital Stimulus Materials: In-Person Administration versus Remote Administration white paper for remote procedures before testing.

Does the normative update apply to the RIAS-2 Spanish Responses and Supplement e-Manual?

Yes. The normative update version of the RIAS-2 Record Form with Spanish Responses and Supplement e-Manual will be available later this year.

How do I learn how to use Digital Record Forms?

Access DRF training in PAR Training or within the DRF itself via the help button.

You can also use Practice Mode to learn how to use digital record forms before using it with a real client. Although you can enter responses, the item scores and total raw scores are disabled, and reports and exports are not available. Entering and exiting practice mode clears all entered responses.
